William Meller
William (Bill) Meller, MD is the founder of the MedCenters of Santa Barbara, one of the earliest urgent care centers in the United States. Since founding the practice in 1983, Bill has played a pioneering role in expanding access to high-quality urgent and family medical care in the Santa Barbara community. A board-certified internist, he has built a long-standing clinical career focused on practical, patient-centered medicine.
Bill earned his undergraduate degree from UC Santa Barbara and his MD from Georgetown University, completing his residency training at Cottage Hospital. During residency, he recognized the need for a more efficient, lower-cost alternative to emergency room visits — an insight that led to the creation of MedCenters.
In addition to his clinical work, Bill has taught Evolutionary Medicine at UCSB’s College of Creative Studies. His academic interests explore how human evolutionary history informs modern health, nutrition, stress, and behavior, and he has integrated these principles into his medical practice.
Beyond medicine, Bill is an experienced investor in early-stage startups and real estate, and is a participant in Entrada Funds I and II. At SBAA, he brings decades of clinical insight, thoughtful questioning, and disciplined investment perspective to the group’s due diligence efforts.
